at Historic Richmond Town

Sleepovers for Grades 3 through 6

Clip Art of a small girl

It all starts at 7:00 p.m. when the group makes their own candles to illuminate the approaching darkness, on the trek through the dusk to the Guyon-Lake-Tysen House. Here they gather around the fiery hearth to pop their own corn and churn butter. Next, they climb the Courthouse steps to uncover the "back story" of one of the most sensational murder trials in American history. Upstairs, in the very courtroom where Polly Bodine was tried for murder in 1834 they cuddle in their sleeping bags, munch popcorn and participate in the dramatic re-telling of Polly.s mysterious and bizarre trial. The story ends when they render their own verdict and discover what the real jury decided more than 150 years ago.

In the morning they head down to the Guyon Lake Tysen House to griddle their own Indian Flappers (corn meal pancakes), join a scavenger hunt and other activities. Finally, they are initiated into the "Society of the Secret Treasures" and are sworn as "Keepers of Treasure" to cherish and pass on secrets to new members.

By 11:30 a.m. they are ready to return to the present day.
