Songs of the Seas and Taverns
A line-up of four performing groups fills the Tavern with great sailor sing-alongs, heart wrenching ballads and tales of life at sea and ashore.
DAVID KLEIMAN is the originator of the chantey program at South Street Seaport Museum and the founder of the Traditional Music of the Sea Festival at the Mystic Seaport Museum. His stories, songs, humor and instruments transport us to the days of wooden ships and iron men.
COMPASS ROGUES (Frank Woerner, Jan Christiansen, Bob Conroy and Greg Bullough) are a quartet steeped in the lore and love of the sea, accompanied by button accordion, concertina, guitar and banjo.
NEXTRADITION is Alison Kelley and Ken Schatz, who perform songs with driving rhythms and roaring choruses.
HEATHER WOOD is a seminal player in the Anglo-American folk revival and an original
member of the British a capella group The Young Tradition.
