Do you know these cheerleaders?

Chearleaders HRT SIHS 790224279 large 400pxDo you know these cheerleaders?

This image was recently re-discovered in our collection among the works of Herbert Flamm, a well-known local photographer. The teenage boys and girls are dressed in cheerleading uniforms, and the “ND” logo on their sweaters tells us that they attended New Dorp High School. The photo is not dated, but the style of the uniforms, complete with saddle shoes, suggests a date in the 1940s or 1950s.

Do you know these homes?

Flamm 790220585 large ID 823 600pxDo you live here now?

These never-before-published photos were recently re-discovered in our archives while our curators were working on the Herbert Flamm Collection of photographic images.  Mr. Flamm took these photographs in 1949, but his notes didn't tell us where the houses were located. Now, thanks to Edward Parisen of Los Angeles CA, we know that the houses are located on Simonson Avenue in Mariners Harbor. Two of these three charming bungalows (the ones at left and right in the row of three houses) still stand today, looking much like they did when first constructed.

Charlie Sullivan to portray legendary American politician James Guyon Jr. at upcoming Guyon Tavern Concert Series

CharlesSullivan 120x150Charles Sullivan is no stranger to acting. This time traveling performer has appeared on stages across Staten Island, most recently as Scrooge with Shakespeare Theatre, as well as with Sea View Playwright’s Theatre, Sundog Theatre, and In the Wings.

This season, he portrays James Guyon Jr., the historic proprietor of Historic Richmond Town’s Guyon Inn and Store. Home to the legendary Guyon Concerts, the circa 1819 building serves up an authentic 19th century acoustic music experience with a warm and resonant sound quality illuminated by candlelight and warmed by a potbelly stove.
