Do you know this street?
This image was recently re-discovered in our archives when our curators were working on the Herbert Flamm photograph collection.
The photograph, one of a set of five, was taken on November 30, 1954 by Herbert Flamm, a well-known local photographer who was often commissioned to photograph streets and buildings for insurance companies. Thanks to the contributions of Ray Navedo, the scene has now been identified as numbers 111 and 121 Franklin Avenue in New Brighton, Staten Island. On the telephone pole at left we can see a campaign flyer for Edward Amann Jr., who won election to the New York State Assembly in 1952, representing the North Shore of Staten Island, and served as an Assemblyman for 21 years. A small portion of the house 105 Franklin Avenue is visible.
