Barnett in SI SceneryWith support from the Staten Island Foundation, Historic Richmond Town and the Staten Island Museum have teamed up to publish a book and produce a film that celebrates the beauty of Staten Island throughout the centuries.

Released in December 2013, Staten Island Scenery 1679-1900: Paintings, Prints, Drawings and Photographs by Barnett Shepherd is a rich, picturesque tabletop volume that features scenic vistas of the Island, the Manhattan skyline and the busy New York harbor.

Hidden gems from the museums' archives and images from other institutions have been rediscovered, curated by Mr. Shepherd and handsomely presented in over 200 pages.

Containing over 160 large format beautiful digitally and professionally reproduced images, Staten Island Scenery contains many images that have never been seen before. It shows Staten Island through the eyes of artists who lived here and visited here from afar to experience the beauty of our Island.

The book is accompanied by an amazing DVD, directed by Emmy Award winning director, Ed Wiseman, that offers art and history lovers an up-close view of the landscape images and behind-the-scenes information mellifluously narrated by Mr. Shepherd.  Click here to watch a preview of the DVD.

For over twenty years, Mr. Shepherd has researched Staten Island prints, paintings, drawings and photographs with the mission of presenting them to future generations. Charlie Sullivan to portray legendary American politician James Guyon Jr. at upcoming Guyon Tavern Concert Series

CharlesSullivan 120x150Charles Sullivan is no stranger to acting. This time traveling performer has appeared on stages across Staten Island, most recently as Scrooge with Shakespeare Theatre, as well as with Sea View Playwright’s Theatre, Sundog Theatre, and In the Wings.

This season, he portrays James Guyon Jr., the historic proprietor of Historic Richmond Town’s Guyon Inn and Store. Home to the legendary Guyon Concerts, the circa 1819 building serves up an authentic 19th century acoustic music experience with a warm and resonant sound quality illuminated by candlelight and warmed by a potbelly stove.

Jan 5, 2018 - The Guyon Tavern (circa 1819) at Historic Richmond Town (HRT) serves up an authentic 19th century acoustic music experience with a warm and resonant sound quality that is rarely found anymore, thanks to the original aged wood and plaster, and the unmistakable handmade construction.
