With support from the Staten Island Foundation, Historic Richmond Town and the Staten Island Museum have teamed up to publish a book and produce a film that celebrates the beauty of Staten Island throughout the centuries.
Released in December 2013, Staten Island Scenery 1679-1900: Paintings, Prints, Drawings and Photographs by Barnett Shepherd is a rich, picturesque tabletop volume that features scenic vistas of the Island, the Manhattan skyline and the busy New York harbor.
Hidden gems from the museums' archives and images from other institutions have been rediscovered, curated by Mr. Shepherd and handsomely presented in over 200 pages.
Containing over 160 large format beautiful digitally and professionally reproduced images, Staten Island Scenery contains many images that have never been seen before. It shows Staten Island through the eyes of artists who lived here and visited here from afar to experience the beauty of our Island.The book is accompanied by an amazing DVD, directed by Emmy Award winning director, Ed Wiseman, that offers art and history lovers an up-close view of the landscape images and behind-the-scenes information mellifluously narrated by Mr. Shepherd.
