Step back through time to experience the holiday pleasures of centuries past. Evening tours illuminated by candlelight showcase more than a century of yuletide traditions on Staten Island, where culture and foodways from many countries combine to create something that is uniquely New York.

All tours are 90 minutes in length and can accommodate up to 22 people per tour. Tours operate rain, snow, or shine. All ticket sales are final, non-transferrable, and non-refundable.

*Please note that while all ages are welcome, our Candlelight Tours are best suited for visitors ages 6 and up. Our tours consist of walking and standing for long periods of time in small, dimly lit spaces. Program Features

By lantern light, costumed guides will take groups through the village where scenes of holidays past conjure the spirit of the season. 

• Step into the Stephens-Black House, where the Stephens family prepares for the excitement of a Victorian Christmas.

• Stop in the General Store where the clerks are working late fulfilling orders for customers.

• The smell of fresh olykoeks leads to the Guyon-Lake-Tysen House, where Dutch treats are baked in the open hearth.

• Time passes on to the 1830s, where people of color contemplate freedom and festivities in the Basket Maker’s House.

• In the Guyon Tavern, a lively celebration can be heard in the songs of early 19th century America, and warm beverages are served.

Tours conclude in the Courtroom of the 3rd County Courthouse, festooned with greenery and a tall Christmas tree, where warm wassail and baked goods are served, along with holiday bell ringing by Natalia Paruz.

• In the event of tour cancellation on part of Historic Richmond Town, a full refund will be issued.
