FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Richmond Town Historic District now Listed on the  State Register of Historic Places by Governor Hochul: Up Next the National Register of Historic Places

Staten Island, New York: On September 9, 2022, Governor Kathy Hochul announced that the New York State Board for Historic Preservation was to recommend adding 27 properties to the State and National Registers of Historic Places, among them Richmond Town Historic District.

The State and National Registers are the official lists of buildings, structures, districts, landscapes, objects, and sites significant in the history, architecture, archaeology, and culture of New York State and the nation. Richmond Town Historic District was approved by unanimous vote. The property, which includes the entire campus of Historic Richmond Town, St. Patrick’s Church and the Church of St. Andrew is now listed on the New York State Register of Historic Places. The district will now hopefully be nominated to the National Register of Historic Places where they are approved and then entered on the National Register.

Jessica B. Phillips, CEO of Historic Richmond Town said, “This honorary designation is decades in the making. It is my honor to walk this project across the finish line for the dedicated preservationists that have come before me, such as Barnett Shepherd and Loring McMillen. This project could not have been achieved without the dedicated research and know-how of Molly McDonald, RPA Sr. Technical Director/Architectural Historian & Archaeologist at AKRF.”
